Step 1: FYI

Please take a moment to review the following SMART FACTS about the Fun Fitness Boot Camp. Be sure to print a copy for yourself.

1. How do I know if I am a good candidate for Boot Camp?

Boot Camp is for all fitness levels and everyone in general good health. The Wednesday evening and Saturday morning classes are ideal for beginner / intermediate fitness levels. The Monday evening class is ideal for intermediate / advanced fitness levels. Participants with a "beginner" fitness level should not register for the Monday evening class.

2. How do I know which level is best for me?

If you are unsure which class is best for you, ask Jaye. She can speak to you about your current level of fitness, exercise program, and health history information. Together you can determine which class is right for you.

3. How many campers are in each class?

The number of campers in class ranges each season. The advanced classes tend to be more intimate with ten to fifteen participants. Generally, there are twenty-five to fifty campers in the beginner / intermediate classes.

4. I don’t have access to the Internet. Can I register by phone?

Yes. The process takes about 10 minutes. Contact Jaye at 404-378-5775.

5. What if I have minor body issues?

The human body, plus a life on earth, usually equals a glitch here and there, unless you are darn lucky (knock on wood). You might have minor muscular or skeletal issues , or occasional soreness in a particular part of the body, perhaps in the low back, knees, shin, ankle, shoulder, wrist, or elbow. I It is important to differentiate between an undiagnosed medical issue that may require a doctor's care and such minor issues. You, the owner, know your body best. It is important to listen to what it tells you. "Occasional" means exactly that. Persistent, nagging or ongoing pain signals you to take the time to seek professional medical advise and care before participating in Boot Camp. Boot Camp is an active exercise class and participating with persistent issues puts you at risk for injury and that's irresponsible. Good news for those with a MINOR issue: this class can be modified to meet your individual needs by substituting or omitting a particular exercise, or with slight changes in form, reps, or tempo. Jaye can easily make recommendations for your specific needs during a phone consultation. It is her goal to see that you have a great boot camp experience and that you complete the program remaining injury free.

6. What if my health history changes during the eight weeks of the class?

It is imperative that you notify Jaye if you health history changes at all. Whether you are in a fender-bender, twist your ankle, or are diagnosed with high blood pressure, it is your responsibility to contact Jaye with such information. Jaye wants you to remain safe and injury free during your Boot Camp experience.

7. How will I know if I am accepted and registered for class?

After you submit your online registration, Jaye will carefully review your information. She may need to contact you by phone regarding fine details, so be sure to provide your best contact numbers. You will be notified of your registration by e-mail.

8. What if I experience muscle soreness or pain during or after boot camp?

During this Boot Camp program, it is important that you communicate with Jaye by phone if you experience soreness or pain. During exercise, it is okay to feel a warming sensation or slight burning in your muscles as they fatigue. That's normal. Pain during exercise is not okay. Normal discomfort is much different from pain. Listen to your body and become familiar with these sensations and their differences. If you experience pain during class, you should stop exercising and notify Jaye. She can take a brief sidebar and make recommendations to you. Occasional, minor muscle soreness that lasts a day or two is a common byproduct of exercise. Frequent, intense muscle soreness means you've overdone it. If you experience muscle soreness that feels intense and lasts more than a day or two, you must contact Jaye by phone, not e-mail, so that she can make specific recommendations to you. She may suggest a change in exercise choice, form, reps, tempo or intensity. You should rest, recover and follow these recommendations during your next class. If you experience pain after class, it is imperative that you contact Jaye by phone, not by e-mail. During this phone conversation, she will be able to take an exact description of your experiences and make specific recommendations to you. That old saying, "No pain, no gain," does not apply to this program. Talk to Jaye. She's here to help.

9. Where is Candler Park?

Candler Park is west of Decatur and east of Little Five Points. Class takes place in the park at the corner of McLendon Ave. and Candler Park Drive. Enter the park from McLendon between Oakdale Rd. and Clifton Rd.

10. What should I wear?

Atlanta weather is unpredictable. Be prepared. Dress in layers so you can remove or add clothing as you get warmer or cooler. Bring a jacket for chilly or rainy weather and a cap for windy or misty weather. Wear shorts that won’t expose you while doing abdominal exercises with your legs in the air.

11. What should I bring?

Bring a mat or towel for the ground and plenty of water. If you would like, wear a heart rate monitor and bring a headset and music for the cardio part of the class.

12. What if I have to miss a class due to illness or a scheduling conflict?

You are allowed two make-up sessions. You can attend either day at your class level. You do not need to notify Jaye. Use your make-up sessions wisely.

13. What is the Rain Policy?

Jaye hopes to secure an indoor space for rain-outs. In the event that an indoor space is not secured there will be two rain make-up days for each class level. Make-up days will be held at the end of the regular class schedule on the particular day the class was cancelled. A Monday class would be made up on a Monday and a Saturday class rain-out would be made-up on a Saturday, etc.

14. What if the weather is crummy?

If Mother Nature sends us a little mist or intermittent sprinkle, Boot Camp will be held as scheduled. If, however, we experience steady or heavy rain, Boot Camp will be cancelled.

15. How will I know if class is cancelled?

If the weather is questionable, Jaye will make the decision whether or not to hold class two hours before class time. If class is cancelled there will be an announcement on the Fun Fitness voice mail. You can find out if class is cancelled by calling the Fun Fitness studio line at 404-378-5775.

16. What happens when it gets darker earlier?

During the change of season, we may experience a bit of darkness during class. There is plenty of light in the park and surrounding areas for class. When necessary, Jaye may bring lanterns for additional light. If it is dark during cardio time, the route changes from two loops around the golf course to several laps using the hilly, path system within the park. Each course is an excellent cardio workout!

17. When is the registration deadline?

The registration deadline is Friday, September 5. Your payment must be received by this deadline to reserve your space in class.

18. How do I pay?

Please mail your check payment. Payments must be received prior to your first day of class. Campers will not be permitted to attend class until payment has been received.

The Department of Park's Recreation Act prohibits the receipt of payments in the park. Do not bring your payment to the park.

Your check will be deposited upon the close of registration, which is Friday, September 5.

Payments should be mailed to:
